LET'S TAKE A TRIP
Salem, MA in
The Spring!
TR-01 • Saturday • May 10 • 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM • $79
Settled in 1626, 4 years before Boston, Salem enjoyed international renown
as a center for merchant shipping. Today it is famous around the world because
of a 7 month episode in 1692. The witchcraft trial hysteria led to 20 deaths, 3
centuries of notoriety, and countless lessons on the evils of prejudice. Unable
to live down the association, Salem embraces its reputation. The high school
sports teams are the Witches, and the logo of the local paper is of a sorceress.
Our first stop will be to the Peabody Essex Museum, one of the oldest and New
England's largest museums. It vividly retells the story of Salem's maritime
history with what is regarded as the world's most complete holding of Asian art.
We will tour, as a group, an authentic Chinese House, brought timber by timber
from China and reassembled in the museum. After our tour has ended you may enjoy
sections of the museum on your own.
You will be given an all day ticket for the Salem Sightseeing Trolley, a shuttle
around the city, with stops at the following: The Visitor Center, The Salem Wax
Museum, The Salem Witch Village, The Salem Maritime Site, The House of the Seven
Gables, The Witch Dungeon Museum, Salem Witch Museum, and Pickering Warf.
Lunch on your own - and there are plenty of wonderful selections within walking
distance of the museum or on Pickering Wharf. You will be given a list of
restaurants for you to consider.
Today, Salem is a most picturesque Boston North Shore bedroom community, on the
sea, and full of scenic views involving the ocean and spring flowers this time
of year.
We will leave Keefe Tech via a restroom-equipped motor coach at 8:30 am.
Price includes round trip transportation, entry to the Peabody Essex Museum,
Tour of the Chinese House area, All Day Ticket for the Salem Trolley, and the
services of our guide, Marilyn Pugh. (lunch on your own).
