FLORAL & GARDENING

BULBS, BULBS AND MORE  BULBS MADE EASY

FG-01 • Class held: Oct 13

3 Hours • 1 Session • Wed: 6:30-9:30

Come and learn about all the bulbs that are available for fall planting. Not just bulbs for the out-of-doors either, but bulbs for indoor winter color as well. You will learn how to pick ‘quality’ bulbs for sun and shade gardens alike. These bulbs will, and can, give you color from early March right on through until late June & early July. We will cover planting techniques for the outdoors, and the right potting mediums for your indoor potting. Methods on how to deter ‘wildlife’ from eating your bulbs and their blooms will be covered too.

Henry Schmidt joined the staff of Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge as a horticultural consultant. Following a tour of duty with the Army, he joined the staff at Weston Nurseries in Hopkinton where he has been employed for 35 years. Henry has operated a successful landscape business with his partner for 13 years and also has been a judge at the New England Flower Show.

 

DEER, RABBITS, WOOD CHUCK

AND OTHER GARDEN PESTS

Having trouble keeping garden pests such as deer, rabbits and woodchucks away from your vegetables and expensive shrubs? Henry will present a list of plantings that will keep these animals away from your yard. No animals or people will be poisoned or hurt – but these plantings because of their taste, aroma and/or texture will make this a NO EATING ZONE for your plants! Say farewell to these hungry garden critters!

DRY FLOWER FALL BASKET

FG-03 • Class held: Oct 27

3 Hours • 1 Session • Wed: 6:30-9:30

Create a beautiful dry fall flower basket. The basket will be made with various dried flowers and greens. Accents such as ribbons may be used. This basket will last the season and even longer. Brighten up your home with the colors of fall. Tuition includes all materials.

FALL PLANTING AND PRUNING –
GETTING YOUR GARDEN READY FOR WINTER

Winter is coming and now is the time to make preparations for a better garden in the spring! Learn about mulches, fall clean-up, perennials, shrub care, tree protection, and lawn care. A little planning now will make all the difference this spring! In addition, you will pick up tips to create an exciting winter landscape for interest as well as one that will provide shelter and sustenance for birds.

FRESH BOXWOOD CHRISTMAS TREE
WITH MINI-CARNATIONS
FG-05 • Class held: Dec 16
3 Hours • 1 Session • Thu: 6:30-9:30

Create a long-lasting freshly decorated boxwood tree - perfect for your holiday centerpiece! The tree is made up of many branches cut from the boxwood tree and pine branches, and arranged attractively in a water-retaining base. This “living” tree will stay fresh in your home for weeks. Once you discover the technique you will be able to replicate the process year after year. Make several at home to share as special gifts of the season! (No previous floral experience required.) Tuition includes the boxwood and all the materials you will need to create one tree. Please bring a pair of clippers.

THANKSGIVING CORNUCOPIA

Brighten your Thanksgiving table with a magnificent Thanksgiving centerpiece! We will be working with bright autumn flowers to create this beautiful arrangement for your own holiday table or to bring to a family gathering. (No previous floral experience required.) Tuition includes all the materials you will need. Please bring a sharp pair of scissors and a container to take your arrangement home in.

THE PERFECT LAWN
FG-07 • Class held: Sep 29
3 Hours • 1 Session • Wed: 6:30-9:30

Before you spend hundreds of dollars at your lawn for fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, mulchers, weed whackers and inground sprinklers, you should take this course. You’ll learn valuable tips for a beautiful lawn that can save you hours of time and frustration. With the early morning dew and warm sunny days - some say starting or reseeding a lawn in the fall is the best time!
