CRAFTS         

CROCHET BANGLE BRACELET
CR-01 • Classes begin: Sep 29 (End date: Oct 13)
7.5 Hours • 3 Sessions • Wed: 6:30-9:00

Learn to crochet a spiral tube with seed beads and finish the tube with a focal bead to create the bangle-style bracelet. The techniques that you learn can be used to create necklaces as well. All materials will be provided by the instructor. Seed beads are small, so (if needed) please bring eyeglasses or magnifiers to see your work more clearly. Prerequisite: Knowledge of basic crochet is helpful but not required.

Joan Sebastian has been a teacher and a quilter for over 30 years. She has taught quilting to adults and children as young as 8 years old.

 

INTRODUCTION TO POLYMER CLAY TECHNIQUES
CR-02 • Classes begin: Oct 18 (End date: Nov 15)
12.5 Hours • 5 Sessions • Mon: 6:00-8:30

Learn all the basics of polymer art step-by-step while creating unique beads, focals for earrings and pendants, pins, magnets, and mosaics (or whatever your creative mind desires), then apply your new skills to create a project of your choice: a decorated picture frame, light switch covers, covered tins and boxes...the possibilities are limitless! Basic colors of clay and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own materials from home if you like (polymer clay brands discussed on the first night - do not buy any before the first meeting). Please bring waxed paper or deli paper and/or a covered container or plastic bag to each class to protect your new creations on the ride home for curing.

Lori Schneider is a crafty individual with a degree in Biology, which inspired her to look to nature for color combinations and designs to create wearable and usable and practical art. As a photographer, she also focuses upon the overlooked details found in nature, which often give her even more ideas for her next project.

 

KNITTING FOR BEGINNERS
CR-03 • Classes begin: Sep 28 (End date: Nov 2)
15 Hours • 6 Sessions • Tue: 6:30-9:00

Learn basic knitting skills that will provide you with an interesting and relaxing pastime. This class is designed for anyone new to knitting and for those who need a refresher course. Participants will learn basic skills and will make a simple scarf by the end of the class. Supplies for the first class are: a notebook and pen/pencil, and some type totebag to transport your supplies. Other knitting supplies will be provided by the instructor for student use. Class size is limited to 12 students.

LEARN TO CROCHET!
CR-04 • Classes begin: Sep 21 (End date: Oct 26)

Have you tried to teach yourself to crochet but found the diagrams confusing? Did you learn to crochet years ago, but have forgotten much of what you were taught? Would you like to make home crafted items for friends and family? This is the class for you! In this course, designed for Beginners and those who perhaps know and stitch or two, we’ll explore the stitches required for many crochet projects like blankets, fashion scarves, table runners and even a cute little stuffed bear! Please bring at least one skein of 4-ply acrylic yarn, a notebook and a size “J” or “N” hook to the first class, both are available at stores like Walmart or Joanne’s Fabric for less than $10.

Jill Roberson, a long-time educator at Keefe Tech, has been crocheting for more years than she cares to admit. Her house is filled with cozy blankets and pot holders and every baby born to the family is welcomed with a soft blanket made with love.

 

LEARN TO HAND QUILT!
CR-05 • Classes begin: Nov 9 (End date: Dec 14)
9 Hours • 6 Sessions • Tue: 6:30-8:00

No machine used. This is a course for those who would like to learn to create beautiful quilted items, but do not want to rely upon a sewing machine. This course will cover the basics of quilting: fabric cutting, the “Quilter’s Quarter”, hand piecing , binding and appliqué with a strong emphasis on Amish traditions. No previous sewing experience needed but student should be comfortable threading a needle. To the first class, please bring 4 fat quarters (available at Joanne’s Fabrics or any quilt shop), batting, hand quilting thread, pins, a pin cushion, and at least one sewing needle.

MAGAZINE BASKET
CR-06 • Classes begin: Nov 3 (End date: Nov 17)
9 Hours • 3 Sessions • Wed: 6:00-9:00

Store your magazines in this tote style basket. Two rows of standard size magazines fit on either side of the center handle. The base measures approximately 4” x 16”. This basket is a great space saver.. Bring the following tools if you have them: awl or flat head screwdriver (as narrow a head as possible), sturdy scissors or garden hand pruners, measuring tape, pencil, 12 spring loaded clothespins. You should label your tools with your name and if you have a small box to keep them in, it is helpful. The instructor will have tools for students to share. Tuition includes materials.

Debra Rolfe has been weaving as a hobby and teaching weaving to both children and adults for many years. Her work is sold at local arts and craft fairs in the fall. Recently, she received a “People’s Choice Award” for her basket “In Harmony” at the Northeast Basketmakers Guild’s annual convention. Debra is a member of the Northeast Basketmakers Guild and the National Basketry Organization.

 

MAKING A QUILT USING PAPER PIECING
CR-07 • Classes begin: Oct 20 (End date: Nov 10)
10 Hours • 4 Sessions • Wed: 6:30-9:00

NEW CLASS! Paper piecing has become a popular quilting technique because it results in very accurate but simple to sew quilt blocks. In this class the participants will learn to sew fabric directly to lines on paper to create quilt blocks that will be sewn together to form a 24” x 24” tabletopper. (The instructor will explain how to make additional blocks and create a crib size quilt.) Prior quilting experience is helpful but not essential. Bring the following supplies to the first class: a pen/pencil and a notebook, a very fine point Sharpie, and a ruler. After the initial class meeting, each participant must be prepared to bring to class a sewing machine in good working order.

STAINED GLASS: BEGINNERS
CR-08 • Classes begin: Oct 6 (End date: Dec 1)
20 Hours • 8 Sessions • Wed: 7:00-9:30

This course is for those who have never cut a piece of glass before. (However all students are welcome.) You will be learning the copperfoil method, often referred to as the Tiffany style of stained glass. We will begin cutting the first night. Using clear glass, you will complete a practice piece by the second night. This project will prepare you to begin on the flat project of your choice. Tools are available for in-school use only. The approximate cost of materials for your project will depend on what you choose. You could spend about $75 to $100 on supplies. Tools to do the craft at home will vary in quality and are an additional cost. There is a wide range of tools available for purchase at the stained glass stores. I will introduce you to a variety of them. A supply list and a list of suppliers will be distributed to you at the first class. Precaution - Lead is used in the class. Women who are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant should consult their doctor before registering

Michele Dillon has been teaching stained glass in the MetroWest area for over 20 years. She began her career as an apprentice in 1980. Over the years she has created custom windows and lamps for both residential and commercial customers. Some of Michele’s students have continued on their own and sold their work and have become award winners.
