THEATER
NEW CLASS! No experience necessary! Whether you’ve been acting for awhile and want to learn some new techniques, or are just starting out in the world of acting, this class is for you. Besides any community theater opportunities in the area, there is also an independent film scene that needs people! In this class, we will discuss a twelve step process of script analysis that will help you make your character and performance personal and therefore believable to the audience. We will also cover how to adjust your performance for stage vs. film. Come join the fun and discover talent you may not have known you had! Room: 300 • Kristen Hunn • Tuition: $89
NEW CLASS! Do you have an idea for a screenplay but don’t know where to start? Maybe you don’t have a story in mind yet, but you know you would love to express yourself in this way? In this new course, students will take an idea for a film and learn how to develop it into a workable concept for a complete screenplay. The goal is to give you the tools you need to develop and begin writing a script that you can complete once the class is done. We will cover the basics of structuring a complete story, how to format your work properly, and how to write effective scenes and dialogue. Please come to the first session with an idea for your script, even if it is very general. Class schedule will include time off to be used as “writing weeks,” where students can work on part of their script to share in class for peer and instructor input. Room: 218 • Kristen Hunn • Tuition: $89 Kristen Hunn is a graduate of the School of Film and Animation at Rochester Institute of Technology. While there, she worked on various student films, including some that she wrote and directed. Kristen has also interned at a professional video production company in Boston. She currently is the director of the drama program at New Hope Community Church in Marlborough, MA.
The opera chosen for this semester’s opera lecture series is Don Carlos by Giuseppe Verdi one of the greatest works in the Italian repertoire. Based on a play by the German Shakespeare, Friedrich Schiller. The opera is full of political intrigue, church and state conflict and of course, a love triangle, two in fact. It contains some of Verdi’s greatest music and is one of the grandest of all grand operas. Our speaker will be John Tischio, noted opera lecturer and president of the NEW ENGLAND OPERA CLUB. Mr. Tischio will discuss the life and times of the composer, the literary work on which the opera is based and of course the opera itself. His commentary will be highlighted with video clips from the opera. The lecture will be held on Wednesday evening, December 8 and the follow up one week later on December 15. The telecast performance will be on Saturday December 11 at 1:00PM at the Solomon Pond Cinema in Marlboro. The ticket is included in your tuition but you will have to arrange for your own transportation. Room: 300 • John Tischio • Tuition: $59 John Tischio, is the president of the 200 member 30 year old NEW ENGLAND OPERA CLUB. He teaches an opera course he calls OPERA THE FIRST BROADWAY at several community colleges, lectures extensively before many civic organizations in the Boston area and leads cultural tours to New York, Philadelphia, Charleston NC, Tanglewood and many European cities.
