ADULT BASIC EDUCATION & ESL

INGLÊS COMO SEGUNDA LÍNGUA
A Keefe Tech oferece um programa completo de Inglês como Segunda Língua (ESL) para adultos. As aulas têm lugar todas as terças e quintas, das 6:00 às 9:00 da noite. A duração deste curso é de 20 aulas, num total de 60 horas de instrução. Oferecemos uma sessão por semestre. Esta tem início terça-feira, dia 21 de Setembro de 2010 e termina no dia 7 de Dezembro do mesmo ano. Depois de se registrarem, os alunos são submetidos a um teste para se determinar o seu nível do Livro de Inglês. Este exame tem lugar na primeira aula. Aceitam-se matrículas até que se complete a sessão. O espaço é limitado. O custo da matrícula é de $229 (inclui os livros e outros materiais necessários). Aceitamos cartões de crédito (Master Card, Visa), cheque bancário pessoal ou dinheiro. Poderá pagar através do telephone, fax, ou internet com o seu cartão de crédito. O pagamento do valor total do curso é exigido no momento da matrícula.
INGLÉS COMO SEGUNDO IDIOMA
La Keefe Tech ofrece un programa completo de Inglés como Segundo Idioma (ESL) para adultos. Las clases se reúnen dos veces por semana, los martes y jueves, de las 6:00 a las 9:00 de la noche. La duración del curso es de 20 clases, para un total de 60 horas de instrucción. Ofrecemos una sesión por semestre. Esta empezará el martes 21 de Septiembre del 2010 hasta el día 7 de Diciembre del mismo año. Después de registrarse, los estudiantes serán evaluados para se determinar su nivel del Libro de Inglés. Este examen tendrá lugar en la primera clase. Aceptaremos matrículas hasta llenar la sesión. El espacio es limitado. El costo de la matrícula es de $229 (incluye os libros y demás materiales requeridos). Aceptamos el pago con tarjeta de crédito, giro bancario, cheque personal, o en efectivo. También aceptamos pedidos por teléfono, fax, o internet con su tarjeta de crédito. Se requiere el pago completo en el momento de la matrícula.
 
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
BE-01 • Classes begin: Sep 21 (End date: Dec 7)
60 Hours • 20 Sessions • Tue & Thu: 6:00-9:00

This class is for individuals who want to learn English or improve their English skills. Students will become familiar with the structure and vocabulary of English through exercises in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Four different levels will be offered: Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. Book level testing will take place at the first class. The $229 tuition includes a book.

ENGLISH PRONUNCIATION
BE-02 • Classes begin: Oct 6 (End date: Dec 1)
16 Hours • 8 Sessions • Wed: 6:00-8:00

Improve your spoken English by learning which areas of your speech are important to change and how to make these changes. Learn how to discriminate those English sounds which are difficult, how to produce these sounds and practice hearing and reproducing the rhythm, phrasing and intonations of American English. Sharing cultural experiences will also be part of this course. Homework required. Bring a small mirror to class. Enhance your personal and professional life. Tuition includes a textbook.

MaryLee Mullin-Palencia has a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Framingham State College and also has certification in both Spanish and English as a Second Language from the state of Massachusetts. She has taught Spanish, French and English for 17 years in Florida and Massachusetts.

 

READING-WRITING SKILLS FOR ESL STUDENTS
BE-03 • Classes begin: Sep 27 (End date: Nov 22)
16 Hours • 8 Sessions • Mon: 6:00-8:00

This course is designed for intermediate students who want to develop fluency in their reading and writing skills. High interest contemporary readings will provide a springboard for writing essays. Each week a different theme is presented which will be the topic for reading skills such as predicting, comprehension and making inferences. Writing skills will include brainstorming, draft revision and editing. Vocabulary and grammar will be integrated into each lesson. In-depth discussions will encourage students to write responses to the readings. Tuition includes a textbook.

Linda Jeffrey is the Coordinator of the Peer Tutoring and Testing Programs at MassBay Community College at the Framingham campus. She has a Master’s Degree in Critical and Creative Thinking from the University of Massachusetts and also has an ESL Teaching Certificate. She has taught ESL for 4 years.

 
GED/HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY
TEST PREPARATION
BE-04 • Classes begin: Sep 27 (End date: Nov 22)
40 Hours • 16 Sessions • Mon & Wed: 6:30-9:00

This course is structured to prepare you for testing in the subjects in the GED exam: Writing Skills, Social Studies, Reading Skills, and Math. We have included the new writing sample section of the GED exam. This course will lead into the December GED exam (to be administered at Keefe Tech). The Steck-Vaughan Guide to the GED Exam will be used and is included in the tuition.

Judy Costello currently teaches English in a Westborough Department of Youth Services facility. Previously, she taught other subjects covered by the GED and helped students prepare for the GED.

Georgette Knapp has been a high school math/computer science teacher for 35 years. She is presently teaching at Uxbridge High School. In addition Georgette is in her 25th year as an adjunct instructor at Newbury College. Her Bachelor’s Degree is from Worcester State College.
